Our
Story

Brenalee is a dream come true for our family. It has always been our desire to own a beautiful Bernese but we never imagined that we would be in a place where we could raise them. In 2022 we purchased our first CKC Registered Bernese and began to build our program. We take breeding very seriously. This breed is far too beautiful to not do everything we can to preserve it. All of our dogs are CKC registered, clear of hip and elbow dysplasia as well as DM and Von Williebrands. Beginning at 3 days old we begin Early Neurological Stimulation. Exposing them to ENS improves their cardiovascular performance, gives them stronger heart beats; stronger adrenal glands; makes them more tolerant to stress; and gives a greater resistance to disease.  Our dog's are loved family members, we live on a country property and our dogs have close to 3 acres to roam. Our children have been blessed with the privilege of embarking on this journey with us. It is such a joy to have the opportunity in making these little beings become something more then just a puppy-they are a Brenalee puppy. We look forward to meeting you!

Nutrition

We feel that nutrition plays a huge role in the quality of life for a dog, especially one who can grow upwards of 130lbs, and is at risk for several health conditions. We like to give our dogs the best start which includes finding a large breed puppy food. After many years of searching, we have found the company Fromm and they have met/exceeded our expectations. Once our puppies are about 1 year old, we transition them to Farmina Adult Med/Maxi food. It is very high in protein, as well as it is organic and not genetically modified. With both the puppy and adult food, we mix a raw blend in as well every day. Even though we feel as though we feed some of the most high quality food on the market, we still know that no matter what we feed, the food isn’t enough. This is where supplements come in. When our first male began showing signs of elbow dysplasia, while we knew we were not going to be able to use him in our breeding program, we still wanted to give him the highest quality of life possible. After much research we found the company Nuvet. We began giving him as well as our other dogs Nuvet’s multivitamin, and their hip and joint vitamin. To this day, Maverick no longer limps and everyone as beautiful coats, lots of spunk and truly are the happiest dogs. Nuvet is pure, created in an FDA facility, and cold pressed, meaning unlike a lot of vitamins, the nutrients are not cooked out. Along with Nuvet we feed a mixture of Youngevity’s natural vitamins, they are easy for the body to digest and we have noticed a big difference in our dogs since beginning this. Things like raw egg, plain yogurt and goats milk are often added into our dog’s food as well. It is so important that when everything else seems to be going against this beautiful breed, we do our best to do everything we can do, for them.

Exercise

Exercise is a crucial part of maintaining a healthy dog, however it is important to understand what proper exercise should look like. Puppies have soft, developing areas of growing tissue near the ends of their long bones called growth plates. These plates are fragile and do not fully close and harden into solid bone until the dog is around 12 to 18 months old. High-impact activities, forced running, jumping off furniture, or long continuous walks put excessive stress on these soft growth plates. This damage can lead to permanent bone malformation, shortened limbs, or a higher risk of severe lifelong issues like hip dysplasia and arthritis. Providing them opportunities for shorter durations of exercise is ideal, and when they are tired, or you feel like they are beginning to overexert themselves, bring the play time to a close. On the contrary, becoming overweight also leads to several health problems so a reasonable amount of exercise is very important.
